Why the high schools Biotechnology Programs?
| |
| |
Biotechnology uses living organisms to produce some of the most important products in the world. Whether it is drugs to cure diseases, or pest resistant plants for agriculture, Ventura County is a leader in Biotechnology. Ventura County is home to some of the most successful biotech companies in the world: Amgen, Baxter, BioSource, DAKO, Seminis Seeds and Technical Associates are only a few of the 69 biotech companies that do business and hire skilled employees at all educational levels. 86% of the companies in Ventura County expect to hire employees in the next year at salaries that average $ 36,478 ( statewide average, all levels).
You can stat taking classes for this filed of science at the high schools and get a head start in the Ventura College biotechnology program.
Ventura College has a three-track option of courses in biotechnology ( and plant biotechnology): one track will provide a Certificate, and is commonly the fastest path to a job in biotechnology (list of working graduates is available); another track leads to University transfer and advanced degrees; and the third path leads to an Associate degree. If you intend to continue your education, you should use the transfer path and follow the directions of your counselor and the university where you plan to transfer.

Please see your counselor or refer to www.assist.org for transferability requirements and dead-line. Other information may be found in publications such as the UCSB catalog, INTRODUCING THE UNIVERSITY, and ANSWERS FOR TRANSFERS, all available on the web at http// www.ucop.edu/pathways/
