a Splinter in Your Mind:
How do you know what is real? What
is ideal? How do we decide between right and wrong? What is ethical? Moral? How
are race and gender socially constructed today and in the future world depicted
in the Matrix? These are just a few of the questions raised by Matt Lawrence,
author of Like a Splinter in Your Mind: The Philosophy Behind the Matrix
Trilogy (2003
Blackwell available in the VC Bookstore). A philosopher who started his studies
at Ventura College, Lawrence
graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Santa Cruz and holds a Ph.D. in philosophy
from UC Irvine. As an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Long Beach City
College, he has won several teaching awards and advises the Surf Club and
Philosophy Club. Watch The Matrix 730pm Tuesday February 28 J-1.

Thursday March 16 was the wake for Uncle Shamus
