Jon Mack
Head Coach

Second Year at Ventura College
College attended: Cal State Northridge

Coach Jon Mack will be entering his second year as head coach of the Pirates after a very successful tenure at St. Bonaventure High School of Ventura. With his arrival for the 1991 season, the Seraphs have experienced nothing but success. Over the past eleven years alone, Coach Mack led his teams to eleven straight league titles including five straight Channel League championships and seven CIF titles. His winning percentage is second to none, and he holds the record for the most wins.

Coach Mack is a graduate of Notre Dame High School where he also taught for eight years. Coach also taught and coached at Alemany High School and Loyola High School prior to arriving at St Bonaventure. Coach Mack is a graduate of California State University Northridge, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. Coach earned his Matsters degree at Azusa Pacific University in 2005.

Coach Mack is quick to point out how supportive his family has always been. His wife Kathy, daughters Jenny and Kristin, along with his son Justin, have always been coach's most loyal fans.

In just a short time there is a buzz in the community about the Pirates. Coach Mack's presence has already made a positive influence. Through the hard work of Coach Mack and his outstanding staff the future of Ventura College football rests in very capable hands.

In year one the Pirates ended as Co-Conference Champions in the WSC Pacific Division with a Conference Record of 6-1 and an Overall Record of 8-3. They ended the year with a 39-34 victory in the Southern California Bowl against Palomar. Coach Mack earned WSC Coach of the Year, 4 playes made All Conference 1st Team, 7 players made All Conference 2nd Team, and 6 players made All Conference Honorable Mention.

   

Gary Anglin
Deffensive Coordinator/Linebackers
32 years at Ventura College
College attended: UCLA

One of the most respected coaches in community college athletics is Coach Gary Anglin. Coach Anglin will be entering his 32nd year with the Pirates.

Coach Anglin holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from UCLA and recieved a Masters degree from the University of Wyoming.

Upon arriving at Ventura College, Gary would be the head man with the Pirate baseball team in the spring and handle linebackers with the football team in the fall. Coach Anglin will also handle the duties of defensive coordinator this season for his second year. Gary is married to Lisa and has two children, Brooke and Casey.

   

Tim Gutierrez
Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
6 years at Ventura College
College attended: San Diego State

Coach Gutierrez begins his sixth season on the Pirate football staff. Coach Gutierrez is a devoted disciple of the "No Huddle Offense" with its emphasis on a third down approach to all downs and putting constant pressure on the defense.

Coach Gutierrez came to Ventura College from St. Bonaventure High School, where he was hired as the offensive coordinator in 1995.

After graduating from high school, Coach Gutierrez went on to play quarterback at San Diego State and garnered All WAC honors in 1993. Coach Gutierrez also serves as head coach of the Ventura College Track and Field program. He is single and resides in the City of Oxnard.

   

Ted Lawrence
Defensive Line/Recruiting Coordinator
11 years at Ventura College
College attended: UC Santa Barbara

Coach Ted Lawrence enters his 11th year at Ventura College and his 9th as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. He joined the Pirate Football staff in the spring of 1998 and served as the offensive line coach for two years prior to assuming his duties on the defensive side of the football. Coach Ted Lawrence has sixteen years of coaching experience.

Coach Ted Lawrence earned his Bachelor's degree from UC Santa Barbara in 1994. He went on to earn his M.Ed. in 1998 and M.A. in 2002 from Azusa Pacific University.

   

Tom Lawrence
Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Backs
10 years at Ventura College
College attended: CS Northridge

After attending Ventura College, Coach Lawrence moved on to attend and play for Cal State Northridge. Coach Lawrence would later graduate from the university with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.

After spending nine years at the high school level, Coach Lawrence was hired as the Special Teams Coordinator at Ventura College in 1999. Along with coordinating the Pirate Special Teams, Coach Tom Lawrence will also handle the Defensive Back coaching duties. Coach Tom Lawrence has also served as an offensive assistant coaching receivers and running backs.

   

Ian Eaton
Assistant Head Coach

13 years at Ventura College

In his 13th season with the Pirates, Ian is now serving his 7th year on the football staff. Previously he assisted in Basketball and Baseball. If Coach Mack is unable to fullfill his duties Coach Ian will assume the coaching duties.


   
Coach Dan Lyon

Offensive Line
Second Year at Ventura College

Coach Lyon is entering his second year of coaching the offensive line at Ventura College. He has twenty years of high school coaching experience. As a player, Dan was first Team All Western State at Moorpark College and an Academic All American at New Mexico Highlands University. Dan resides in Ventura with his wife, Luz, and their two sons, Austin and Nate.

   
Coach Bendinelli

Jason Bendinelli
Tight Ends/Long Snappers
Second Year at Ventura College
College attended: UCLA

Coach Bendinelli is in his second year of coaching at Ventura College as the Tight End and Special Teams coach. Jason has over five years coaching experience at different levels with tight end and offensive coordinator duties. After attending Ventura Colelge where he played Tight End and Long Snapper. After one season at VC, Jason earned a football scholarship to UCLA, where he graduated with honors. Jason lives in Ventura and is married to his wife, Varita, and have a son Collin.

   

David Padilla
Character Development Coach/NCAA-NAIA Recruitment Coordinator
Second Year at Ventura College

Coach Padilla has been coaching for over 15 years working at both Camarillo and Thousand Oaks High Schools. Coach is a representative of the fellowship of Christian Athletes.

   
Coach Nick Pierson

First year at Ventura College
Coach Pierson is in his first year coaching at VC.  He played his high school career for Coach Mack at St. Bonaventure where he earned 4 CIF Championships as a wide receiver and special team’s player. He played for Chapman University and is a recent graduate.

   
Coach Tony Leckie

First year at Ventura College
Coach Leckie enters his first year at VC coaching running backs.  He has over nine years of coaching experience at both the high school and youth levels. He has earned 5 National Karate Championships.  He resides in Ojai with his wife Tami and their 3 children.

   
Coach Jonathon Ford-Harris

Jonathon Ford-Harris
Defensive Backs Coach
First year at Ventura College
Coach Ford begins his first coaching defensive backs at VC.   He played for St. Ambrose University in Davenport Iowa where he earned 1st team All-Conference each year.   He then transferred to and graduated from CSUN.   He comes to VC after coaching last year with Agoura High School.
