WHY SHOULD A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER CHOOSE
VC?
Academic Prowess
The Pirate Football
program has had a 95% graduation rate since 1997. While many junior college's simply seek to make their players eligible,
the program sees to it that it's Players stay on track to earn their Associate's
Degrees so they are eligible to receive scholarships as they move forward in their education. The student athletes will attend mandatory study hall, and will schedule their classes
with the assistance of Becky Hull, Ventura College's Athletic
Counselor.
Superior Student Services
Ventura College offers a free tutorial center, academic and career counseling,
financial aid, and a state of the art learning center which works to meet
diverse student needs. It is these services that allow the Pirate football
players to be leaders in the classroom as well as on the gridiron. The
college has recently added a brand new Math/Science/Business Center and
is in the process of constructing a new building for the English Department. If you are an Out of State/Out of Area Student-Athlete please look at our Out of State? page to get all of the info you need.
National Recognition
In 1998, Ventura College achieved the most dramatic turnaround in junior
college football history when the Western State Conference (WSC) Bowl
Champion Pirates went 9-2 and were ranked 25 in America. In 1999 the Pirates
again went 9-2, finished the regular season as the no. 1 ranked team in
southern California, and won the WSC Championship. Ventura College has
been ranked in the TOP TWENTY every year since 1998.
During the 1998 campaign when the Pirates had the no. 1 defense in the
WSC, Pirate Marcus Hill was named Defensive Player of the Year in the
state of California. In the 2002 season Will Poole was an All-State, All-American,
and State Most Valuable Player. It is not hard to see why recruiters,
coaches, and sportswriters recognize Ventura College as one of the premier
junior college football programs in the country.
Scholarship Opportunities
The Pirates are well known for the scholarship opportunities they have for the student athletes. Countless hours meeting with college recruiters, talking on the phone,
and mailing game films are ways to ensure that 100% of the graduates have the opportunity
to further their careers.
There have been a total of 106 scholarship's received by Pirates from 1997-2004,
38 of which were to Division 1 schools.
