Coach Wyers begins his second season as an assistant coach at Ventura College and part time physical education instructor. He brings five years of collegiate coaching experience with him to VC. He has coached at San Diego Mesa College for one year (2002-03) and Hancock College for three years (2004-2007).
In his years coaching at the community college level he has been a part of two conference champions. Last years Pirates won the WSC for the seventh consecutive year and in 2002-03 San Diego Mesa College won the Pacific Coast Conference title.
While at Hancock College Wyers recruited three ALL WSC players, one player who went on to play NCAA Division 1 basketball, two players who went on to play NCAA Division 2 basketball, and one player that went on to play NAIA basketball. He also secured scholarships for seven other players: one to the NCAA Division 1 level, four to the NCAA Division 2 level, and two to the NAIA level.
Coach Wyers was born in Oxnard, Ca in 1980 and lived locally in Ventura County until 1992. He then lived in Santa Maria and San Diego before moving back to Ventura County last summer. Coach Wyers is a 1998 graduate of Righetti High School in Santa Maria. He recieved his A.A. degree from Hancock Junior College in 2000. In 2003, he received his B.S. in Kinesiology emphasis in Physical Education with a minor in Health Education from San Diego State University. In 2004, he received a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education from San Diego State.
During the summer Coach Wyers instructs at a variety of summer basketball camps including: Cal Berkely, San Jose St., University of Southern California, Westmont, University of San Diego, Snow Valley, and Advantage Basketball. He also had the opportunity to work out NBA draft prospects and free agents in the summer of 2006. He has also been the director of the Hancock College summer basketball camps and was one of the co-directors of the Ned Mircetic We Play Hard basketball camp this past summer.
Coach Wyers (28) has been married to his wife Tonya (25) for one year. They have one son, Bryan(6) and are expecting another child in mid June.
