Prerequisites

Math V03 or 1year of high school intermediate algebra ( Algebra II) with grade of C or better  .

Recommended prep: Math V02 or knowledge of plane geometry

Entry skills:   A.  Solving linear equations. B.  Solving  quadratic equations. C.  Graphing first and second degree functions.

D.  Graphing conic sections.   E.  Using algebraic operations upon complex numbers.

  Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Prove trigonometric identities and apply trigonometric identities to solve for exact values, simplify expressions, and solve equations;
  2. Apply principles of right triangle trigonometry and circular functions;
  3. Graph trigonometric functions and their inverse functions, and discuss the domain, range, and properties of these functions;
  4. Apply trigonometric principles to solve problems using triangles;
  5. Analyze the plane from the point of view of rectangular coordinates and polar coordinates, and know how to move between these representation

Schedule

A tentative schedule is attached. This schedule may be a subject to small changes. It is the student’s responsibility to follow any changes in the schedule.

Instructions  for the  class  meetings

Please be in the classroom on time.  Take notes in your notebook at every class and record all information, whether you know it or not.

Materials to be brought to each class meeting

Notebook, textbook,  graphing paper, pencil, pen, scientific calculator (CASIO fx-115 ES or similar), compass, protractor, straight edge, and triangle.

Class participation

Your participation will be an asset for you and your classmates. Class participation is encouraged during class discussions and questions  and may eran you extra points.

Absence

One absence per semester is allowed only. Five points will be deducted for every absence after the first one. For a student’s absence any longer than one class, it is recommended to contact instructor.

Homework assignments

There will be homework assigned every class. Each homework assignment turned in on time is worth up to 10 points for a total of 150.  Homework pages are to be stapled together including a cover page that will be posted at instructor’s website. Five points will be deducted for each homework without completely filled in cover page OR cover page provided with incorrect information. Each problem in the homework assignments will be numbered and page number recorded according to the textbook. Students will present all side calculations or considerations made during the problem solving.  The result of each problem will be boxed.

Quizzes

There will be a quiz given every class meeting except the first  class and the one the exam days.                                                                       The quiz time will be from 7:10-7:30 PM. Make sure to be in class on time to begin the quiz with the group promptly.                                         Each quiz is worth up to 12 points for the total of 144 points.

 Midterm and Final Exam

Midterm and Final Exams will be 2 hour long.
