| If you are interested in automobiles, enjoy working with your hands to solve complex problems, the automotive repair industry may be for you. Skilled automotive technicians are in demand. There is now a large and growing shortage of automotive technicians. The United States Department of Labor predicts a 38% increase in the number of technicians needed through the year 20000. There are over 300 automotive repair facilities in the Ventura/Oxnard area. The average age of the technicians working in these facilities is relatively high. Predictions by the California Employment Development Department indicate that 100 new technicians per year are needed in Ventura County. Graduating automotive students have been placed in dealerships and independent repair shops form the San Fernando Valley to San Luis Obispo. A graduating student entering the automotive field could expect to earn up to $20,000 a year. Within 3 to 5 years of graduating an income of $40,000 to $60,000 can be achieved. |

Not everyone who is interested in automobiles has the skills or desire to repair them. There are many other good paying jobs available within the industry for people with the knowledge of vehicle operation. Parts counter person and Service Sales representative are two examples of non-technical positions. Vehicle manufacturers are very interested in university graduates that have an automotive technical background to fill corporate positions. |
