Requirements for the
The Ventura College Automotive Program attempts to fill the needs of all students. Students may take only one class to fill a specific need, earn a certificate in a specialty area, earn a certificate in automotive repair, or work toward an associate of science degree in automotive technology.
Above are the suggested curriculums for a certificate in automotive repair and an associate of science in automotive technology. The courses are organized to provide employable skills after completing the first year courses.

At the end of the first year a student will be able to complete repairs that include replacing a timing belt, replacing head gaskets, as well as disassembly and reassembly of an engine. He/she will be able to remove and replace an automatic transmission, replace a standard transmission clutch assembly, repair brakes, perform suspension repairs and align a vehicle's suspension. |
| The second year classes build on the students mechanical knowledge. The courses will develop the technical skills needed to be able to diagnose and repair problems with the vehicles electrical, fuel, emission and air conditioning systems. The classes require the student to utilize their skills, knowledge and experiences to analyze computer data, equipment reading and vehicle symptoms. After analyzing all the information the student will be able to determine the appropriate course of action to repair the vehicle. |
