Back to TopThe program can take as little as four weeks or as long as two years, depending on your needs. Some courses only last 4-8 weeks. Maybe that's all you need, or you may want to enroll into one or more 16-week semester-length classes.
We offer a Certificate of Achievement from Ventura College for students who complete our 30 unit (10 classes) major. An additional 30 units of general education courses would qualify students for an Associate of Science degree.
Back to TopThe answer is yes to both of those questions. Trade classes or general education courses from other schools are transferable to Ventura College, regardless of how long ago they were taken. Students with industry experience can "challenge" courses and obtain full credit. Talk to the instructor or program coordinator for more information.
Back to TopFew schools in California offer building inspection classes or construction supervision classes. Again, talk to the instructor. Sometimes we can help by offering the class on a correspondence or email basis.
Back to TopOur classes are either 2 or 3 units of credit each. The unit cost is $26 for residents of California so our classes will cost between $52 - $78 each. Books are required and they are extra. An all inclusive cost would be about $100 - $150 per class.
Back to TopConstruction Management and Building Inspection are rated as top growth industries. Increased population, aging facilities and infrastructure along with complex governmental regulations assure job opportunity. Construction is a key industry and construction supervision personnel are going to continue to be in great demand.
Beginning level pay for inspectors and construction manager is about $40,000. Pay increases quickly, with many construction professionals earning over $100,000 per year.
Back to TopIf you want to be a trade worker, you probably don't need to go to school, you can learn and earn on-the-job. If you want to be a contractor, inspector or project supervisor, you need specialized education. You need courses in business management, computer applications, code interpretation and project supervision. Employers want applicants with educational training in addition to on-the-job training. Industry licensing and certifications are becoming mandatory for employment. If you want to advance to the next level, go to school!
