FAQ's (Frequently Answered Questions)

What accreditation does the school have?

Ventura College is one of California's 106 public community colleges and is subject to the legal provisions of the state. Ventura College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

What are the fees for enrollment?

The Ventura County Community College District Governing Board has adopted the state-mandated enrollment fee. The fee is $13 per unit. In addition to the enrollment fee, each student is required to pay a health fee of $11 for Fall and Spring semesters, $8 for Summer session. Nonresident and international students must also pay tuition and surcharges as described under nonresident and tuition fees in this section. Consult this catalog and the schedule of classes for other fees. Contact the Registrar for further information.

What is your refund policy?

Refund Policy on Enrollment, Health, Parking, ASB Fees

A student may qualify for a refund for enrollment, health, parking or ASB fees paid during registration, if the student drops a class or withdraws from school within the program adjustment period. All enrollment refunds are subject to a $10 administrative charge. Refunds for parking and ASB fees require the return of the parking permit and ASB card. Please note: No refund shall be authorized beyond the 2nd week of the semester, for Fall/Spring. Consult the schedule of classes for refund deadlines.

Refund Policy on Tuition and Surcharge (nonresident/international students)

Eligibility and the amount of refund are determined by the date the student officially drops a class at the Records Office. Application for a refund shall be made through the Student Business Office.

Refunds are determined by the number of units for which the original tuition was charged. NO refunds shall be authorized beyond the third week of summer session nor beyond the fourth week of the regular semester. Refunds, in the form of a check, will be mailed by the District Office approximately 4 to 6 weeks after application is received at the Student Business Office.

Do you have student housing available?

The college provides no campus housing, nor does it operate any off-campus housing. Students are responsible for securing any necessary housing. However, listings of accommodations are reported to the student activities office. The listings include information about rooms, room and board, and rooms with kitchen privileges. The most complete listings are available between mid-August and September. The accommodations reported are made available purely as a service and the college assumes no responsibility as to the condition of the rental nor the reputation of the landlord. Selection of housing, financial arrangements, and supervision are the responsibility of the student (and their parents or guardian). Housing information is posted on the bulleting board opposite the campus police office in Building E. Students also have the option of posting "House for Rent", "I Need Roommates to Share" or "I Need a Place" cards at this location. The cards are available at the Student Activities Office, and on the bulleting board in Building E. For more information call 654-6487.

What financial services do you offer?

Many students would be unable to attend Ventura College without financial assistance. If you need financial assistance to help pay the cost of attending Ventura College, the Student Financial Services Office will provide you with financial aid information and services.

Applying for financial aid can be somewhat complicated and time consuming, but it is worthwhile. The role of the Financial Aid Office is to help academically capable students toward their educational goal. The college offers a financial aid package combining grants, loans and work-study employment, to eligible students with demonstrated financial need. Financial need is determined by comparing student resources (family contribution, student assets, and student earnings) as reflected by a financial needs analysis from the Federal Student Aid Processor, with the appropriate cost of attendance budget for Ventura College. Due to limitations in funding, we are not always able to offer enough financial assistance to fulfill all of your needs. Though students may apply for Financial Aid anytime, it is recommended that students desiring financial aid apply as early as January or 8 months prior to the Beginning of the fall semester.

The financial services philosophy is that education benefits not only the individual, but society as well. Therefore, the responsibility for meeting the costs of college expenses, while primarily borne by the student and/or the family, is shared by educational institutions, private donors, agencies, and the state and federal government for these students who have limited resources. There are three types of financial aid available; grants, loans, and work-study.
