Ventura
College Head Women's Soccer Coach Inducted in to the Ventura County
Sports Hall of Fame
More
than winning trophies or games or championships, Steve Hoffman says
athletes should treasure one intangible above all else.
"Opportunity," says the Ventura College women's soccer
coach. "When you get the opportunity, you need to take it and
see what you can do. Some fail. Some succeed. But everything good
starts with opportunity."
Hoffman,
a native of England, has made the most of his opportunities, building
winning soccer programs at Cal Lutheran and Ventura College while
fashioning a career in the sport his loves best.
On Sunday, June 8, 2008, he was part of a five-member Class of 2008
officially inducted into the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame
during a dinner ceremony at the Marriott Ventura Beach.
Hoffman,
whose Ventura College teams have won 11 Western State Conference
championships, embraces coaching as a role model for athletes.
Hoffman,
51, has accumulated a record of 210-36-32 with the Ventura College
women's soccer program. His teams have won 11 WSC titles and appeared
in four regional finals.
He
is also the Director of Coach Development and Player Development
with the California Youth Soccer Association and Olympic Development
Program.
