

The Ventura College Department of Health Sciences offers learning experiences leading to careers in health care. Over thirty faculty members provide instruction in Associate of Science degree and certificate programs.
The Department features two academic units that specialize in nursing or paramedic studies and related fields. Programs are accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing, the California State Emergency Medical Services Agency, and the Ventura County Emergency Medical Services Agency.
The School of Nursing and Allied Health prepares students to care for individuals in hospitals, homes, and other health care settings. Graduates practice the art and science of nursing by combining knowledge from many different disciplines to promote the restoration and maintenance of health in their clients. The School of Prehospital and Emergency Medicine trains emergency medical technology and paramedic students to provide urgent care in any location or while transporting patients in ambulances or helicopters. Graduates embark on exciting careers as first responders in the delivery of emergency services. The School administers the following programs:
Graduates of the Associate Degree Nursing program participate in a unique ceremony honoring their entry into the nursing profession. During the ceremony, graduates receive a nursing pin from a person of their choice who is a nurse. This event commemorates the advancement from student to practitioner and the transition to equal partner alongside nurses the world over.
